Flattering Hairstyles for the Oval Face Shape

Kathi Downs
You are one of the lucky ones indeed if you were born with an oval face shape. Any hair-do will do and look good. Of course the hairstyle that you decide on will depend upon the look that you are trying to achieve, but you might consider giving one of these hairstyles a try. They are quite stylish, and they are very flattering with an oval face.

First, let's start with short hair. A short hairstyle is perfect for bringing out all of your facial features. Plus, a bonus to short hair is it's easy to maintain.

1. Graduated Bob

To be a little on the trendy side, try the graduated bob. It is short in the back, and gets a little longer towards the front of the face. There are longer sections throughout the hairstyle. It can be blow dried for a wispy look, or held back with hair accessories for a more formal appearance.

2. Concave Bob

The concave bob works well with naturally straight hair. This hair style has long wispy bangs that are feathered to the sides, and has shorter layers over the crown of the head. The neck line in the back is tapered.

Medium length hair is probably the most difficult to maintain, and keep looking nice. It is cut at about shoulder length, and the right hair style will not only look flattering with your oval face, but will be a lot less work to maintain.

3. Textured Bob

The textured bob has different layers that have been brought down and cut, about midway between the jaw line and the shoulders. The back is cut same length as the sides.

4. Curly Bob

The curly bob looks beautiful with an oval face if you have naturally curly hair, or your hair holds a perm well. With the curly bob hairstyle, the back of the hair is cut in a bob, so that there is an edge; and though the sides are cut the same length, they are layered from about cheek level down. This look is quite trendy and frames the face nicely with waves and curls.

With the exception of washing and brushing, long hair is about as easy to maintain as short hair is; though it does take longer to dry. From a French Twist, Bun or Pony Tail, they all look flattering with an oval face.

5. A-Line

In the A-Line style the longest length of hair is in the center of the back, then as you cut toward the sides the length is angled up. The degree at which they are angled up depends on how short you want the sides compared to the back. You can also layer the front top and sides a little, and blow dry for a sexy, wispy look.

I found a web site online that will allow you to download your photo, and then you can use the virtual hairstyler to try out different hair styles, and hair colors. That way you will know what you will look like with a specific hair style before you get it. It's a lot of fun. The site is http://www.thehairstyler.com/default.asp. Click on the Makeover tab, and then choose virtual hairstyler. You will then be guided as to what you should do next. Have fun!
