If you ask me, the last thing any of us need is fleas on our pets. They can cause more problems than a lot of people know about. Having fleas can cause flea allergy dermatitis, tape worms, and if not treated in a timely fashion - anemia. Please, don't allow the prices of flea treatment to prevent you from treating your animal! Animals are much like children. They get sick just like we do and it is your responsibility to make sure your pet gets healthy.
The amount of different treatments may overwhelm you, but have no fear! That's why I'm here to guide you. It is best that you take your pet (s) to the vet immediately. This is where you can get the absolute best treatment. This guarantees the quick recovery and health of Fido or Kitty. Also, they can check for things that you can't. Also, picking the treatments on your own can be very dangerous. Not all treatments are made for both cats and dogs. Sometimes, it's for certain ages and sizes.
Let me tell you about a couple of the different treatments and what types of animals they are made specifically for:
Advantage: This treatment can be used on dogs and cats. It can also be used on puppies no younger than seven weeks old and kittens no younger than eight weeks. It is made to last for up to one month. Advantage kills 98-100% of fleas within twelve hours of topical application. It kills fleas before laying eggs and kills flea larvae within twenty minutes of contact.
Frontline: This treatment can be used on cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies. Check with your vet to find the exact age for kittens and puppies. It kills 100% of fleas on your pet within eighteen hours and continues to work a month or more to keep your animal flea-free. In addition, it also kills 100% of ticks within forty-eight hours. Frontline is also completely waterproof, making it easier for your pets to live their normally active lives.
From my personal experience these two are the best treatments out there. They're safe for both cats and dogs and are simple to administer. Since summer is afoot, it would be best to pay attention to your pets. Especially if they're outside animals or they have gotten out somehow. Make sure you get to a vet immediately if you notice that they have fleas or multiple ticks. This could make a huge difference in the quality of your animal's life.
