Fleece Sheets: Great Buy for the Winter Months

penguins29
I never knew fleece sheets existed until I came across a wonderful day-after Thanksgiving sale at Kohl's last year. I found a soft, off-white Queen fleece sheet set for only $19.99. I couldn't pass up such a great deal on sheets, especially for a Queen-sized mattress. So I bought them, took them home and put them on my bed. They are by far the softest sheets I've ever slept on, even the expensive 1,000-thread count sheets. Not only do the sheets keep me warm, they are soft and comfortable. The sheet set also came with 2 fleece pillowcases. We just bought a new Serta plush pillow-top mattress right before I bought these sheets. Very comfy mattress itself. After I paired these sheets with my goose feather down comforter, I've been sleeping so well ever since.

Up until I found out about fleece sheets, I used flannel sheets in the winter. Flannel sheets are still great for the winter too, but not quite as soft. I now know that fleece sheets are widely available, in stores such as Kohl's, Wal-Mart and Bed Bath and Beyond. You can also find them online at stores such as Overstock.com and Fleecies.com.

I did run into some problems when I first washed my sheets. I forgot to use fabric softener, and I used warm water to wash them in. The washing directions tell you to wash them in cold water on the gentle cycle. I'm not sure if fabric softener would have helped keep it soft or not, but I noticed the sheets starting to get "fuzzies" on the one side, and it didn't feel as soft as before. Sometimes, I've noticed that with my other fleeces, like my fleece sweater and fleece sweatpants, they do start to lose their "softness" from washing them several times, no matter if you use fabric softener or not. My flannel sheets never had that problem for me. That's one thing to be careful about. Although my fleece sheets always feel really warm and soft when I take them out of the dryer!

I only use my sheets in the winter, until it starts to get warm outside, then I switch to regular sheets. However, you can use fleece sheets all year round. They are made to carry moisture and humidity away from your body, so even during the summer, you won't sweat to death in them.

You can find fleece sheets with many different patterns on them, as well as solid sheets. In the winter, it's easy to find popular patterns such as penguins (my favorite!), polar bears and snowmen. I chose to buy a solid color, just in case I wanted to keep them on my bed all year round. I doubt that penguins would match my summer bedding collection. I recommend buying a fleece blanket that matches your sheet set, if you want to make everything match. You could even buy a nice, soft comforter in the same color of your sheets, and make it into a "bed-in-a-bag" set. The choices are endless.
