Fleetwood Homes Sees Increase in Jobs in Lafayette, Tennessee

Reports of More Jobs Than Originally Stated Bolster Hopes

Fleetwood homes continues to bring good news to the small community of Lafayette, Tennessee. The company and the city made announcements earlier this month that the plant, which has stood empty in recent months, will be reopening for business in December. They have held several job fairs in the area over the passing weeks, and expectations for a return of jobs to the community is running high. Recently rumors that there would be a higher number of jobs than originally expected circulated through the community, and these rumors turned out to be well founded at the latest City Council meeting on November 6, 2007.

The expectation of the creation of jobs is enough to stir imminent interest in this small community, however at the recent city council meeting it was stated that a minimum of one hundred and twenty five jobs will be brought to the area, and they expected that number to reach as high as one hundred and sixty jobs when the Gallatin, TN facility is completely closed down and the reliance for production falls completely to the operation at the Lafayette facility.

While the city or county will not gain anything from Fleetwood through traditional property taxes, as the property was deeded to the Industrial Board, Fleetwood will be making yearly payments for the use of the property. Fleetwood will also be paying taxes on personal tangible property, and the numbers for these taxes are expected to increase substantially as the company brings in new equipment and materials.

And that does not even take into consideration the increase in revenue that the area will see simply from the creation of so many new jobs. Not only will it increase the income of many Macon County residents, but nonresidents will likely spend money in the area when they come there to work. The possibility of this increase in revenue is creating quite a stir in local businesses as they hope to see their profits steadily rise with the creation of more jobs, and as people begin to view this change as permanent.

With the increase in the number of jobs that can be expected from the originally planned numbers, the tangible property taxes that will be paid, and the annual payments for the facility use, Fleetwood spells good things for this small community. And the hope of many of the residents of attaining positions with the company, or reattaining positions that they had once held at the Lafayette plant of Fleetwood continues to be bolstered with the number of Job Fairs, and the promise of more jobs to come on the horizon.
