Fleetwood Mac 2009 Unleashed Tour

My Night with Fleetwood Mac

Vonda Menard
I spent last night with Fleetwood Mac, me and a few thousand other people. This was my second time seeing Stevie Nicks in concert. The first time I saw her, she was touring with Don Henley. That was a good show, both Nicks and Henley were wonderful, but seeing Stevie Nicks, with Fleetwood Mac, was special.

"Time makes you bolder even children get older and I'm getting older too," the powerful lyrics from "Landslide," are an appropriate description of the band today. Yes, Fleetwood Mac are older and they don't sound like 20 year olds, but boy can they put on a show. Mick Fleetwood was amazing on drums. I'm not sure many 20 year olds could play that intense, for that long and I loved the red shoes Mick.

I'm in awe of Lindsey Buckingham's hands. He did things to that guitar, that I wouldn't have thought possible. Lindsey played for hours and didn't miss a note. Hard to imagine him playing any better, even years ago.

Then, there was Stevie. There is something regal about Steve Nicks. She floats on the stage with her trademark dresses. She looks like an angel, with wings extended as she twirls around the stage, emulating a ballerina in a music box. You can't keep your eyes off Stevie while she's on stage. As your eyes watch her, her voice draws you in, and you sit almost hypnotized. Much like Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks has a very distinctive voice. It's almost haunting. I could listen to her sing all night.

With no new album to promote, Fleetwood Mac performed all their hits. They sung popular songs like, "Rhiannon," "Go Your Own Way," "Don't Stop," "Landslide," my favorite, and even some obscure songs, like "Storm." They played and played, well over 2 hours. The last song of the night, "Silver Springs," sounded perfect.

What made this concert enjoyable, was not just the voice of Stevie Nicks. The band genuinely appeared to be having fun. The way they played, the way they interacted with each other, this was a group having a great time, playing their music. I'm glad I was there to see it.

If you get a chance to catch the tour, Fleetwood Mac Unleashed, you should treat yourself to a talented group, who work hard for over two hours for your enjoyment. I left the concert an even bigger fan of Fleetwood Mac.
