Flexibly Easy Easter Basket Craft

Anni Sofferet
If only everything in life was as flexibly easy as this Easter basket craft. You can sew it from start to finish or follow my tips for buying the things you need ready-made. Either way, your Easter basket craft will come out looking charming. Just follow my tips along the way to customize your Easter basket to your needs.

Step #1. Find an Easter Basket

At a craft store look for a basket big enough to hold your Easter eggs in all their many colors and sizes. Be sure you like the color and texture of the basket, that it's deep enough and that it has a handle if you wish to have one. Typically Easter basket crafts don't have lids, but it's up to you.

Step #2. Find a Bunny

You can sew a bunny head in the size and color you like then stuff it with cotton balls. But you can also make this Easter basket craft from a store-bought Easter bunny whose head comes in the right size. I know it's a bit harsh to go decapitating an Easter bunny, but there it is-if you're going to be lazy about sewing you'll have to pull out the scissors.

Step #3. Attach the Bunny's Head to the Easter Basket

Sew the base of the bunny's head together to keep the stuffing from coming out. Next hold the head inside the basket close to the rim and sew the head in place. Don't worry about the stitches showing; we'll take care of that soon.

Step #4. Line the Basket

Cut a beautiful strip of fabric large enough to line the inside of your Easter basket craft. Just place the fabric inside the basket, then cut around the rim. Fold the fabric inwardly and glue it to the basket all along the rim. Make sure to also spread glue all the way down the basket to keep the lining in place even should the basket overturn.

Step #5. Create the Bunny Arms

Once more you can sew bunny arms for this Easter basket craft, in which case you can make them extra-long as in the picture accompanying this article. But you can also be cruel, pull out your scissors again and proceed with the fluffy deed. Sew the base of the bunny arms to keep the stuffing from coming out, then sew them to the base of the bunny's head. Attach them to the basket with small, hidden threads that run along the rim.

Step #6. Add A Ribbon to the Bunny's Head

To hide where the arms connect to the head and any prior stitches, create a nice bow from silk ribbon then glue or sew it to the base of the bunny's head. Keep in the spirit of this Easter basket craft and choose a pink or yellow ribbon.

Step #7. Fill the Easter Basket Craft with Eggs

You can fill your beautiful Easter bunny basket with shiny foil covered eggs in many sizes. You can fill it with plastic eggs with little gifts and candy hidden inside them. Or you can sew decorative Easter eggs like those featured in the picture with this article. These eggs have one seam only-you simply fold the fabric in half then cut out the shape of an egg. When you sew the open side leave an inch open at the end for stuffing in cotton balls. Then seal the opening with a hidden stitch.
