Check the levies; are the schools having a hard time getting them passed? Pull up some websites and check the testing static's and teacher to student ratio. Landscaping is another area that can provide an avenue for profit. Talk to your local nurseries about upcoming sales and start a plan. Nothing to exotic as this will turn some people away. Keep it simple and somewhat generic, you aren't aiming for an award here.
Grass, trees, and simple flowers are inexpensive to plant and care for while the house is on the market.

Look at the house as a prospective homeowner, what does it offer? What can you do quickly to make it stand out from its neighbors? Is parking plentiful? If not, is there room to enlarge the driveway or space for additional parking? Gravel is a quick easy way to designate parking areas.
