Flo Rida R.O.O.T.S. Early Album Review
Does the Low Hit Maker Deliver More Hits the Second Time Around?
The first single off of R.O.O.T.S. is Right Round featuring Keesha. The track is produced by Dr. Luke who is more known for his work with Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry than with urban artists. The song sounds just like a Katy Perry track but with a rap track over it. The urban audience will definitely be turned off by the track; however the song is extremely commercial.
The second single is Shone featuring Pleasure P. The song is definitely trying to appeal to the urban audience. The song is fairly catchy and Flo Rida's flow works well over the production. Pleasure P delivers a strong chorus.
The third single is the DJ Montay produced effort Sugar. The track features Wynter Gordon. The track is definitely commercial and different. The song will soon be all over the radio and the clubs.
Available features Akon. The song is another very danceable pop track. The song works well yet is not one of the stand out tracks.
One of the catchiest tracks on the album is the Danja produced Gotta Get It (Dancer). The track is another future club smash. The song features a pulsating beat and a strong chorus.
Flo Rida teams with Ne-Yo on the Scott Storch produced Be On You. The song seems very similar to Ne-Yo's previous collaboration with Plies Bust It Baby Part II. The track is another radio smash in the making.
Nelly Furtado joins Flo Rida on Jump. The track is equally as catchy as most of the album. The song features a very catchy chorus delivered by Nelly Furtado.
The Inkredibles produce Rewind featuring Wyclef Jean. The song is one of the more introspective songs on the album. The track is uplifting and well done.
Touch Me also features Keesha. The track is yet another solid track from Flo Rida.
The Drumma Boy produced Finally Here is one of the more urban tracks on the album. Even though it is more urban it is almost lite-urban compared to Mail On Sunday.
R.O.O.T.S. finds Flo Rida trying to straddle the line between urban and commercial fare. It is safe to say that Flo Rida knows the exact formula for a radio hit. The album is filled with hits that appeal to the widest audience. While Flo Rida might not find critical acceptance, that does not seem to be his goal. Overall Flo Rida's R.O.O.T.S. gets 8 out of 10. If you are a fan of Flo Rida make sure you pick up R.O.O.T.S. when it is available in stores on March 31st.
