The daisy shaped floating candles are simple to make and look great floating in a beautiful glass dish on your wedding dinner tables, gift table, or even on the buffet table. I also like to place some in the bathroom at the reception hall. They add a nice glow and a fresh scent and let your guests know no detail was too small for your wedding.
You can make these simple floating daisy candles in less than an hour. They will require some cooling and curing time, but you can move on to other projects, like signing all of the thank you notes for your wedding gifts!
This simple floating daisy wedding candle project should cost you less than $25 and you will have a bunch of floating candles.
For a romantic touch on the wedding dinner table you could float a candle in a glass at each of your wedding guest's place setting. Use glasses in a variety of heights. Fill them with water to different levels. This is a simple and affordable way to set a wedding dinner table on a budget.
To Make Some Floating Daisy Wedding Floating Candles You Will Need:
Clay
Daisy shaped cookie cutters
Wick
White Wax or old candles
Tin can
Popsicle sticks
Scissors
Yellow wax (or yellow Crayola)
To melt the white wax bits or pieces of old candle take a clean tin can and bend a spout in the top so you can easily pour the melted wax out later. Put wax into the can.
Now, place the can in a shallow pot of boiling water until the wax is melted. (You can also melt your wax in a microwave safe glass measuring cup or bowl with a spout. Microwave in 15-second intervals so you do not over heats the wax.)
While the wax is melting roll out the clay about ¾ inch thick and wide enough to fit your daisy shaped cookie cutter. Place the cookie cuter in the center of the clay and push in a little, but do not make the cutter cut all the way through the clay.
Set a wick in the center of the daisy shaped cookie cutter and lay a Popsicle stick flat across the cookie cutter to lean the excess wick against so it doesn't fall in.
Pour in the melted wax.
If you are using unscented white wax this is where you would add a few drops of the fragrance oil to the hot wax.
Let the wedding flower daisy candles set for 2 hours and then remove the cookie cutter from the clay.
Tip: You can put the daisy shaped cookie cutters and candles into the freezer for 15 minutes to make removing the cookie cutter much easier.
After 15 minutes in the freezer the daisy flower candle should easily release from the cookie cutter.
You can use a paring knife to trim any rough edges if needed.
Now, take your yellow wax and melt it as well. Dip your paintbrush into the wax. You can use this yellow wax to paint the yellow center of each for your daisies! Let this wax dry as well, and then you are finished!
Tips:
These floating candles also make a great wedding favor gift or family gift as a thank you for all the hard work they put into your wedding. Go ahead and put about ten floating daisy candles in a clear glass bowl. Wrap the entire package together. Now all your recipient has to do is add water and light the candles. This is a great homemade thank you gift that has a lot of thought put into it. It is also an easy way to personalize a gift.
