Florence Marina State Park

Located on the western border of Alabama and just south of Atlanta, this Georgia state park is the perfect place for those who love water sports. Bring your boat, fishing pole and family for a stay at one of Georgia's premier state parks.

Florence Marina State Park is on the northern edge of Lake Walter F. George and is home to some of the best deepwater freshwater fishing in the state. On February 17, 2010 the blue catfish record was caught from the lake. It weighed in at a whopping 80 pounds and four ounces! At 49 inches long it beat out the previous state record by over five pounds and over six inches in length! The previous record was caught in 2008 by a 15 year old, while the new record holder is 67, showing that age makes no difference when catching fish.

Bringing your own boat to Florence Marina State Park is a great way to experience the lake and park. 66 boat slips are available for rent at the park so you don't have to bring launch and load the vessel each day.

But you don't have to bring your own boat to have fun at the park. A boat rental service at Florence Marina State Park allows guests to rent a variety of boats from canoes to motorboats for a fun day on the lake.

Even if you want to catch the big one, you don't need a boat at Florence Marina State Park. A lighted fishing pier and dock near the boat launch allows visitors to cast a line, even after dark. The water here is deep and the perfect place to enjoy a day-or bight of fishing.

While water sports are the main attraction for most guests at Florence Marina State Park, you don't have to get your feet wet to have fun at the park. Playgrounds at each camping loop offer the kids something to do besides fishing. A mini-golf course is also available for those who would like to try their hand at their short game. The park also houses the Kirbo Interpretive Center that holds live animals, Native American artifacts and local history displays.

A 43 tent and RV campground allows guests to spend the night at the park. Six luxury cottages and eight efficiency cottages let those who prefer to sleep indoors enjoy the park. Cottages come complete with all supplies, including cable TV.
