Florida Family Announced for ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition

Cocoa Florida Family Described by Many as "deserving"

Ron Masters
My wife and I were sure that we'd figured out exactly where the family would be chosen from for ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Yes, Ty Pennington and the gang are in the Space Coast area, and we were convinced it just had to be our hometown of Palm Bay. We came to this conclusion when we saw Palm Bay's Heritage High School band perform at the Extreme Makeover Pep Rally at the Kennedy Space Center ( See the Photos I took of the event ). So, we're we close? Well, sort of. The Extreme Team build is in Cocoa, near the Cocoa landfill. They only missed Palm Bay by about 26 miles!

Fresh from the LifeStyle Homes website -- the home builder involved in the project - comes news of the family selected: The Hurston Family from Cocoa, Florida! I've been reading through the various postings from LifeStyle Home's Facebook friends -- people who know the Hurstons. Over and over, I see them described as being "such a deserving family".

I suppose that doesn't come as a surprise. Extreme Makeover seems to always do a fantastic job in choosing a deserving family. The LifeStyle website details a burst pipe in the Hurston's upstairs bathroom around a year ago. The water destroyed their personal belongings and damaged the home extensively, rendering the family homeless for nearly a year. Why so much damage from one burst pipe? Because it ran undetected while the family was away on a charitable relief effort.

I have a feeling that I know where the Hurston's were at. About a year ago, as I'm sure many of you remember, the nation of Haiti was rocked by a devastating earthquake. In the weeks following the quake, I was visiting a Sunday meeting at Calvary Chapel of Melbourne, Florida. A video presentation suddenly began playing and on the overhead screen a Haitian pastor was thanking God and His people for the help that was being given to them. After the screening, one of the pastors remarked, "Remember the offering we took up for Haiti? That went to purchase water purification units from AirMobile Disaster Relief." I remember thinking to myself, "Thank you, God, for this AirMobile group. They are clearly showing me what love looks like."

Plane Makeover in Plain Sight?

With The Hurston family now off on their special outing, demolition and reconstruction of their Cocoa home is underway. But wait! This show might not just be about the house and home rebuild. There's also a donated disaster-relief plane that is hinted at in the article. Could it be that super-nice-guy Ty Pennington will have something special to contribute toward the airplane or aircraft used by the Hurston's ministry? Could Ty be "taking off" when it comes to a plane makeover? From a link off of Ty's Twitter page is a photo of an aircraft in Florida with Ty's comment: "...And flies his old plane to places like Haiti where people need clean water" (Take a look at the picture by Clicking Here )

All this is sounding really good, sounding hopeful! Whatever these amazing people end up doing, I know it'll be amazing.

Clear to land, Extreme Makeover Team! I'm thrilled to be watching you guys fly!

Sounds good - I hope E.M. has straightened out how these families will be able to pay the taxes. there was a problem with one family moving in due to not being able to afford it.
