What you will need for your orange wedding card box:
You will need a pre-made box. This box can be wooden or cardboard, but you want to make sure that it is sturdy. You don't need to spend a lot on this wedding card box either. Go to a local yard sale or thrift shop to find the box that you need. For this wedding card box, opt for one either with a lid that has a slit in it (for slipping checks and cash) or no lid at all. You will also need fabric orange blossoms, orange, green and white art paints, and some faux greenery. If you can get a few extra images of oranges (from magazines, on magnets, or even ones you painted yourself onto wooden circles). You will also need a glue gun, paintbrushes, a cup of water, and scissors.
Step 1: Preparing the Wedding Card Box
Whatever type of box you purchased, you will need to make sure that it is assembled correctly and also cleaned out (if it was a yard sale find). Then you will mix the orange and white paint (to make a peach color). Apply an entire base coat of the paint to the whole box, lid and all. You may need to apply two or three coats. Wait for the paint to dry.
Step 2: Adding Orange Images
The next step involves placing images of fruits, blossoms, and baskets strategically around the box. You want to make sure that you make things more sparse than overly decorated. If you or someone you know has some painting skill, you might want to add simple light green vines with tiny hand painted blossoms.
Step 3: Faux Flowers
Before you glue any flowers or greenery onto the wedding card box, be sure to try different arrangements. Personally, I like lining the box with faux greenery, with a blossom or two on the corners and several blossoms on the top. For some kitschy fun, you may even want to add miniature artificial fruit, but I leave that up to you. Once you have figured out an arrangement that you really like, then glue the foliage onto the wedding card box. This is a great time to have a second pair of eyes around to double-check your creative artistry.
After the wedding:
The great thing about this citrus fun wedding card box is that you can easily keep it later for decoration, like in your patio or kitchen. Save recipes in it, or memories of your honeymoon.
