Florida Shar Pei Rescue Helps Wrinkle Dogs Find Fur-Ever Homes

Florida Shar Pei Rescue is a non-profit volunteer organization that strives to keep Shar Pei's out of shelters and save them from being euthanized. FSPR does not have a physical location to house the infamous wrinkle dogs. Instead, they rely on volunteers to foster these canines in their homes.

Many of the dogs taken in by Florida Shar Pei Rescue require medical attention that can range from a general check-up to major surgery. FSPR relies heavily on private donations and engage in numerous fundraising events throughout the year. Not only do these events raise much-needed funds, they also provide awareness about the breed.

As a Shar Pei owner, I have become a huge advocate for Florida Shar Pei Rescue. They are taking action to help animals which have been abandoned, neglected, abused, or to help Shar Pei owners who can no longer care for their pet.

Today's economy has left thousands of pet owners facing gut-wrenching decisions. Many cannot afford to feed their families, let alone their pets. Others have been forced from their homes due to foreclosure or unemployment and unable to take their dogs with them. Animal shelters across the nation are filled to capacity, as are many of the non-profit animal rescue organizations. It is a dire situation for dogs and cats.

When I first discovered Florida Shar Pei Rescue I was shocked at the number of dogs they are fostering. Shar Pei's are a relatively rare breed, but it appears as if every stray, mistreated and abandoned Pei baby has found its way to FSPR.

One dog in particular has stolen my heart. Her name is Ebon and she has been fostered through FSPR for quite awhile. Ebon has undergone a few medical procedures, all of which were paid for through private donations. She's doing great now and is ready for her fur-ever home. If I didn't already have a houseful of pets, I'd adopt her in a heartbeat.

Then there's Cody, a 3 to 4 year old male mini-Pei weighing in at a mere 26 pounds. Shar Pei's normally weigh between 40 and 60 pounds. Cody has the cutest face and a tail that resembles a cup handle. I'm also smitten with Riley, another 3 to 4 year old male who has an enormous head and even bigger smile.

The truth is all the Shar Pei's in FSPR foster homes are adorable. Each has a story to tell and a very real need for a permanent home. If you reside in Florida or surrounding states, consider adopting one or two dogs from Florida Shar Pei Rescue.

If you aren't able to adopt pets, you can still help FSPR. Financial donations are always welcomed and appreciated. Since FSPR is a non-profit organization, contributions are tax-deductable.

FSPR welcomes donated products which can be sold via their eBay store. If you have gently used items that you no longer need, considering donating them. Items must comply with eBay regulations and should be in good condition and working order.

FSPR is always in need of volunteers. Individuals can foster dogs, help out at events, host their own fundraising events, or become a 'Guardian Angel' by contributing a one-time donation or monthly pledge to sponsor a specific dog.

Anyone who lives with wrinkle dogs will tell you these dogs are not for everyone. But, those who do connect with the breed are hooked for life because Shar Pei's are one of the most devoted and loving dogs on the planet.
