Florida Unemployment: Looking for Work in Hard Times

Celeste St. John
Central Florida -- In my populated central Florida town, tourism is real big. Mickey Mouse is popular and the people who work for him still have a job. For people like me, who cannot supply a fake smile for the visitors to save our lives, working for the mouse is out of the question, and, as such, Florida unemployment continues for some. Lifting 50 lbs and over is not in many a person's job description. Disabled and retirees can't afford to depend on workman's compensation as insurance, God forbid, should anything happen.

I have looked for customer service jobs, administrative positions and general labor, etc.

A woman who wants a safe environment best be leery of the pay-by-day manpower jobs. I used to call on those companies before in my younger days when I was invincible, but know I realize that there must've been an angel in my car as I gave rides to "friendly colleagues."

Still, I'm walking about in search of companies that don't tell me to apply online. I'm old enough to have experienced the method of going out door-to-door and business-to-business in search of a job, dressed in my best Sunday clothes. Looking as though I were about to land a major corporation deal, I would walk into an office and inquire of any openings. Nowadays, the positions that I must look for are at a cybermall of employment.

Most venues advise me to stay at home and rest my feet. I'm ingratitude of family who let me stay on and look for work. Many job searchers are not so fortunate. (Today, I was actually thinking about 1929 and the idea of smartly conserving food.

I'm in my pajamas surfing the web. If I had said that 30 years ago, most of you readers out there would be scratching your head! Surfing the web? What's that? How do you surf a spider's web? No longer do I have to make a visible impression (in most cases). What is lost is the prospect of actually making any impression at all to the gain of landing a job. My resume doesn't taught my years of expertise and my poor social skills don't tell of the wealth of knowledge I hide in my quiet demeanor. Hence, I found my gig writing, as I am doing now.

Writing shows you what my lips cannot and I thought I'd make some extra money while doing it. I also sell on eBay. I don't bring much money in but I'm working on it. Soon I shall make a proper profit (I hope). I'm in search of more venues both online and in the real world of stores, businesses and buildings. Hopefully, more artists like us can find salvation in the generation of more jobs that were supposed to replacing us with the computer. Ironic, isn't it?

Hi! My name is Wes and I have been where you are now. I have been frustrated, agitated and down right scared from time to time in this crazy, insecure economy. It seemed everyone was getting a government bailout but me. It seemed all my tax dollars kept increasing and being given away to irresponsible company management and banks.

Well I have spent literally thousands of dollars and hours upon hours of time looking for a way to ease some of, if not all this current stress and strain. Well, I currently am on my way to doing just that and I want to share it with you absolutely AT NO CHARGE TO YOU!! You have no doubt heard of the movie, Pay It Forward, well here it is and I'm offering it to you, hop

not as many buyers, don't know about the supply, though. I suspect they are down as well. But life goes on and the flow of supply and demand keeps pushing and pumping.

How are sales on Ebay these days? I used to bring in quite a bit as a Powerseller there for awhile.
