The Gators' 13-3 win got their biggest challenge to date out of the way, and they did it without needing Tebow at 100%. Tebow mostly handed off to other people in the first half, and didn't need to carry the ball much himself. But his second-quarter touchdown pass to Riley Cooper was all the offense the Gators needed, as the Florida vs LSU score barely changed after that.
The Florida vs LSU score was powered instead by the Gators' defense, which sacked the Tigers' Jordan Jefferson five times. The 93,000+ fans at Tiger Stadium barely had any reason to get fired up, as a mere 10 point deficit felt like 40.
The mega showdown in the SEC turned into a Gators showcase, except for its conservative offense. But since Florida won't face a highly ranked opponent like this again until December, the Gators may be able to coast for a while until Tebow is fully back to normal.
Meanwhile, the Florida vs LSU score only proved those who doubted LSU right, as the Tigers couldn't come back at the last second to sneak out a win, like they did against Mississippi State and Georgia. Their only hope now is to win the SEC West and get another shot at Florida, or at least do enough to get a BCS at-large bid.
But since the road to the SEC West title now runs through Alabama, the Tigers will have a tough road winning the division - especially when facing Alabama on November 7. Now almost everyone expects the Gators and Tide to come in undefeated for the SEC title game in December, perhaps at 1-2 in the polls.
Could the Florida vs LSU score have been different without Tebow? John Brantley probably could have thrown that touchdown pass to Cooper, since he was wide open. Since the defense handled the rest, Tebow's biggest contribution was just showing up and not getting hurt again.
The Gators don't face a ranked opponent again until South Carolina on November 14. So until December, Tebow's health and recovery towards his old self will remain the top talking point in Gainesville.
