Many Florida realtors are not seeing a decline in sales of waterfront property, even with the current bust in the market. People with money are snatching up the homes around lake-front properties where new development is emerging, and there is an ample buyers market in Volusia County and Highlands County Florida. Centrally located, Volusia and Highlands County have lake-front properties, which have become more desirable than ocean views, due to intense hurricane winds that rage strongest closer to the sea. For the people that want to live out the Florida lifestyle on water, living on a lake-front property in a million dollar home is the dream many are pursuing.

People buying waterfront properties tend to have more money to invest at the time of purchasing, and are not affected as much by budget, and can pick and choose their preferred location. Many lakes in Florida, like in Lake Placid, are tremendous, with miles of pristine water that make for great views and easy access to recreational activities so desired by families and retirees. Many riverfront properties come with boat docks, a more desired aspect of waterfront property, especially canal water that can take the boat owner down the channels and out to the ocean.

Now is a good time for people to invest in this kind of real estate, for prices on previously owned homes are reduced, due to the market. Many sellers are deciding against selling their home, but buyers interested in the central Florida market can still find a listing or two that is priced to sell. Popular areas include DeLand, Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach, Lake Placid, DeBary, Deltona, and Orlando.

Lake Placid has the largest amount of fresh-water lakes in central Florida, over twenty! The market is booming for lake-front properties, with the median average Lake Placid waterfront property ranging from 400,000 dollars to over one million. Popular spots in Lake Placid are Lake June, where there are few lots left to build on, though owners can request a custom made home, and in Lake Mirror, where there is more of a recreational appeal, due to the quality of the water and the setting. There are private docks and community docks for fishing, and this is a strong attraction for waterfront real estate as well.
