Romantic Spots for Couples Looking for a Florida Weekend Getaway

Florida offers many choices for couples looking for a Florida Weekend Getaway. From the nightlife of Miami Beach, to the sun-kissed jewel that is Sarasota, Florida has many towns and cities that make for a romantic getaway. Far away from Disney World and the tourist attractions of Central Florida, Florida has some great spots for couples looking for a little romance under the Florida sun (or moon).

Miami Beach

The charming art deco architecture and sun-kissed beaches of Miami Beach make for a perfect weekend getaway. Couples looking for a romantic weekend escape with a bit of nighttime excitement are sure to find Miami Beach a perfect fit. By day, you can take a walking tour of the art deco district or watch the afternoon pass by at one of Lincoln Road's many cafés. By night, Ocean Drive comes alive as the art deco district become awash in neon lights and salsa music fills the air. Along Ocean Drive there are plenty of places to have a Latin American inspired meal before dancing the night away.

Sarasota

On Florida's west coast, Sarasota offers those seeking a weekend getaway a quiet, relaxing option. In Sarasota you'll want to visit the world-renowned art collection at the Ringling Museum. Also on the site of the Ringling Museum is the fantastic waterfront home John and Mabel Ringling (of circus fame) shared and it is open for tours. And of course, as you'd expect, there is a wonderful circus museum full of relics from days gone by. Afterwards, do some shopping and grab lunch beachside in the St. Armands Circle district. Come sundown, nothing beats watching the sunset on the white sand beaches of Sarasota.

St. Augustine

America's oldest city is rich in history and things to do. A perfect weekend getaway, St. Augustine has something for everybody. The magnificent Castillo de San Marcos was completed in 1695 and is worth the trip just to see it. Under the Spanish, then British, and finally American control, this fort served as an important post to protect the city and the new world. The St. Augustine lighthouse offers a great vantage point to see across the area and out into the Atlantic Ocean. As for dining, St. Augustine offers plenty of romantic bistros and intimate wine bars, all perfect for a romantic evening in this historic city.

St. Petersburg

Just south of Tampa, is St. Petersburg. This jewel in the sun is along nestled in between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Only about 15 minutes south of Tampa, St. Petersburg offers a small town feel. Explore the pier and enjoy fresh seafood in one of St. Petersburg's numerous seafood restaurants. The Salvador Dalí Museum located along the waterfront houses the largest collection of the artist's works outside his hometown in Spain. The whimsical museum showcases works spanning Dalí's life and makes for a great afternoon. As the sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico, join the locals on the pier to watch the sun fade beneath the shimmering waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

These are just a few of the great places for a Florida Weekend Getaway. Up and down the coast of Florida are small towns and other great spots for a romantic escape. There's so much more to Florida than the tourist attractions that attract millions of people per year. Get out and discover the "other" Florida. You'll be glad you did!
