Flow Yoga in Port Richey, Florida is Not Your Typical Gym

Try Flow Yoga for Your Overall Well Being

Along the banks of the Pithlachascotee River (aka Cotee River) in Port Richey, Florida is a former one family dwelling that is now the home of Flow Yoga. I discovered this inviting establishment while driving along the winding road that borders this river. When I developed nagging back pain that was preventing me from playing golf I remembered driving past Flow Yoga and decided to call and find out more about it. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

The Flow Yoga website, which you can see here, describes Flow Yoga as "Your Haven for Well Being." Flow Yoga was started by Faith Bevan and her husband, John Cavaliere. John was mainly responsible for converting the building into a calming, relaxing and inviting yoga studio. Faith has a BS in sports medicine, an MS in Medical science and is a Physician Assistant. She is also certified as a yoga teacher and personal trainer.

The staff is small. Besides Faith, who leads yoga classes and is available for personal training, there are three other teachers. John, Leslie Lemmon and Ann DelMonico teach yoga classes of varying levels of experience.

What I especially like about Flow Yoga is the personal attention. Many people are drawn to yoga because of an injury due to an accident, a medical condition or simply due to the aging process. Because of her medical expertise, Faith is more than qualified to assist students in their quest to ease their aches and pains. She will guide you in your practice of yoga, making sure that you perform your poses and stretches correctly.

During the four years that I have been going to Flow Yoga, I have received advice on how to relieve a number of aches and pains. Faith has suggested stretches to relieve my back pain, plantar fasciitis pain and illiotibial band syndrome. Two years after a partial knee replacement, my husband's knee was still quite painful. He thought his knee would never be pain free. After three months of personal training sessions with Faith, my husband strengthened the muscles which support his knee and is mostly pain free.

Flow Yoga is not a typical gym. Although there are free weights and weight machines available, these are primarily for personal training. The building is open only when there are scheduled classes or therapy appointments. There are no high pressure sales people pitching memberships. The price for a walk-in class is $14. Class cards are available, 5 classes for $60 and 10 classes for $110. The most popular membership is a monthly fee of $45 for up to three classes a week and $55 for unlimited weekly classes. Family memberships are also available. Massage and beauty therapy are also available by appointment.

I am a firm believer in the benefits of yoga. It benefits both the body and the mind. The atmosphere and staff at Flow Yoga promote the well-being of the entire person.
