History of Flower Mound
"Flower Mound" is named after a prominent 12.5 acre mound located near the intersection of FM 3040 and FM 2499, once covered with Indian paintbrush. The mound was once used by Wichita Indians as a holy place dating back to the early 1800's. Soon after Sam Houston settled a tribal dispute in 1844 and Indian raids in the area stopped, the town was established. The quality of the soil, which was known to be suitable for raising corn, wheat, and cotton attracted most of the early settlers to this town.
What makes Flower Mound unique and special?
A location in close proximity to the DFW International Airport, easy access to the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex, first-rate school system, award-winning parks and trails, beautiful shores of Grapevine Lake, are only a few of Flower Mound's unique attributes. It is a great place to live, work, and play. This vibrant, charming town has a lot to offer. The low tax rate, wide variety of quality housing options, safe neighborhoods, and plentiful recreation options, are some of the reasons why it is considered one of the most ideal places to raise a family.
