Flower Review (PS3): Game is Incredible and Unique

S.R.
Flower is a really unique video game released on the Playstation 3, developed by ThatGameCompany. It's hard to really put into words what this game is like, but I'll do my best. Let's give it a shot.

Story : Based on the name and the game play, you wouldn't expect this game to have a story, but it does! A surprisingly good one, even. I wouldn't say there are plot twists and it certainly isn't a traditional story but it is a story nontheless. As such, I refuse to spoil anything here but I will say the story is very well executed and very unique.

Graphics : The graphics in this game are incredible. Nature is one of those things where if you do it right, it's instantly immersive. This game proves it. The insane amount of detail in the environment is jaw dropping. I can't think of a single graphic in this game that wasn't pleasant to look at. There was some slowdown in this game, but because the graphics were so beautiful I didn't mind.

Sound : Another job well done here. The music is really ambient, which fits the game well. The game really calls for soothing music that just passes by without your notice and they really provided it here. The sound effects likewise are also very good and provide much enjoyment.

Game play : It's hard to describe this game, but basically you are in control of petals. When these petals touch another flower, the flower booms which in turn creates more pedals and makes it easier to create your vast fields of flowers. The controls in this game are ultra sensitive, but in a good way. You can guide the petals quite easily, and making them do fancy moves isn't very hard nor is it required in most cases. The difficulty of this game is quite perfect. Most of the times it's relaxing but very engaging, much like a game of Tetris. There are other times where it gets a bit frustrating, perhaps like a hard level out of Adventures of Lolo. Most of the time it's quite a joy to play though.

Re playability : Off the scale, and that's not inlcuding trophies. This game's game play is just extremely addicting and will have you coming back for more and more and more.

Overall : 10/10. There are many great games in the world, and there are many incredible games in the world. But even fewer still, are the games that are both incredible and unique. This game is certainly both and deserves a perfect score, ten out of ten.
