Flower Themed Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Are you looking for gift ideas for Mother's Day that involve a few flowers? Perhaps you are looking for some new floral ideas to brighten up your own home. Below are a few suggestions that will work as both gift ideas for Mother's Day, or to make your own home more colorful and attractive this spring.

Peonies are fragrant flowers that come in a variety of colors, and at one time they were the national flower of China. Because their blooms look similar to gift bows, a neat idea is to use peonies on top of gift boxes. Simply cut the stem off short and make a slit in the top of a gift box. Put your Mother's Day present inside the box and then poke the shortened stem of the peony down into the slit so the bloom on top acts as a fragrant 'bow.' Peonies are easy to grow if you want to plant some yourself, or you can pick up a few at most any flower shop. (When working with peonies, keep an eye out for ants as they are attracted to the nectar.)

If your mother is interested in gardening, a good gift idea is to buy her a new pair of gardening gloves and a new gardening tool (such as a trowel, for example), then gather up some poppy flowers and tie all three things together with some thin rope or twine to make a perfect gardening-themed present. Poppies are highly ornamental flowers and come in a broad range of colors that will really spice up this gift.

Another great flower for spring and Mother's Day is called ranunculus. This flower blooms mainly in April or May and comes in a few different varieties: Spearworts, Buttercups, and Water Crowfoots. Ranunculus blooms are mostly yellow or white, but the pink varieties look especially nice in spring time arrangements. Try a few ranunculus placed in cans setting in a basket around your Mother's Day gift, or you can simply place them around your house. (Note that cattle and other animals should not eat ranunculus as it is highly poisonous to them.)

Sweat pea is another flowering plant that looks wonderful in the spring. Perhaps you would like to make your own unique containers for holding the sweet pea. You can create little baskets by rolling up some colorful or designed paper into cones. Then tape the cones together and place a small cup of water down inside them. Put in the sweat pea and hang the little baskets around your home, or put together a collection of them to give to your mother along with a gift. Hanging the baskets on doorknobs, or other furniture that has knobs will greatly brighten your home. Sweat pea is especially nice for these baskets since it has many long flowing tendrils that will fall and drape out of the cones. There are many different cultivars of sweat pea so you can pick the one best suited to your taste. (Remember not to eat any sweet pea seeds as they are highly poisonous.)

If you would like to give your mother a garden ornament for Mother's Day, make the package unique by putting the ornament in a box with some creeping jenny surrounding the bottom. Creeping jenny is perfect for adding a 'grassy' effect to the gift since it grows low to the ground. It also goes by the names of Herb Twopence, Moneywort, and Twopenny grass. Herbalists use Creeping Jenny to heal various wounds. Concerning the gift, your mother will be able to use the garden ornament and also keep the container for any of her future gardening projects.

So there you have a few gift ideas for Mother's Day that involve flowers, but that you can also use to brighten your own home.
