Floyd Mayweather to Headline WWE Wrestlemania 24

Well, It's the Big Show as His Opponent

Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be this year's mainstream star at Wrestlemania 24 on March 30 in Orlando.

Mayweather came to the ring to save 170-pound Rey Misterio from an attack by 400-pound Paul "The Big Show" Wight at the WWE's No Way Out pay-per-view on Feb. 17.

Big Show suffered cuts on his face after several of Mayweather's punches connected.

Mayweather is one of the top draws in boxing, and WWE chairman is hoping his fight with The Big Show will make this year's Wrestlemania even bigger than last year's.

One night after their first encounter, Big Show and Mayweather apologized to each other for their fracas. The good will didn't last long. As Mayweather was leaving, Big Show shot off his mouth, and the two men almost came to blows again.

The original plan for Wrestlemania was for Rey Misterio and Mayweather to team up against Big Show and Shane McMahon. However, Misterio suffered a muscle tear on the WWE's recent tour of Chile.

The lineup change is actually good news for the WWE, as a one-on-one match between Mayweather and Big Show is much more attractive to the casual fans than a tag team match would be.

If you think the match won't be entertaining since Mayweather isn't a wrestler, don't forget how good Lawrence Taylor's match with Bam Bam Bigelow was at Wrestlemania 11.

The other bouts at Wrestlemania 24 will reward the WWE's loyal fans, as the five men who WWE has built up for the last year will appear in the two main title matches.

For the WWE (Raw) title, Randy Orton will put the gold on the line in a Triple Threat match against John Cena and Triple H. It's almost a lock that Orton will lose to somebody. I am going to say Triple H will win the belt, since Cena had a year-long reign before he was injured last October.

On the Smackdown side, Edge will defend the World title against The Undertaker. I don't think Edge (or anyone) will end Undertaker's unbeaten streak at Wrestlemania, so it looks like Taker will win the big gold belt like he did at Wrestlemania 23 against Batista.

The always-entertaining Money in the Bank ladder match will take place again at Wrestlemania. The winner can cash it in for a title shot whenever he wishes. Jeff Hardy, Mr. Kennedy and Shelton Benjamin have already qualified. We are starting to see the same guys in the Money in the Bank match year after year, so we will see if someone like Hardy can break through to a Wrestlemania main event next year.

Ric Flair has survived Vince McMahon's win-or-retire challenge so far. I wouldn't be surprised to see Flair keep winning until he gets a title shot. So I will pick Flair to beat Shawn Michaels in his next challenge at Wrestlemania.
