Flu!

An Ode to the Swine Flu

Shana Dines

I knew it was coming.

What was I to do?

My son was off and running,

With the swine flu.

Does it really matter,

Swine, or whatever?

I knew that I was doomed,

I knew that I would never

Escape the flu.

I begged and prayed alas!

Lord please don't let me get this,

It will kick me on my ass.

I hope you have a sense of humor,

I know I didn't then.

Fever, chills, headache,

Bones that break and bend.

Head as full as jello,

Soggy miserable mess.

Bloated as that jolly old fellow.

Tylenol and whatever drug,

Make it bearable.

Sleep and living like a slug,

Quivering whimpering stress.

How many more days,

Shall I live,

On death's door?

Wishing to be free to live,

Or asking God to send me to the evermore.

There is nothing much worse, well actually there are a lot of things worse, but at the time, I beg to differ, than having a flu victim living under your roof, knowing you are doomed to get it.

I could only hope and dream. My husband so far is safe. I don't know if my son and I were actually exposed to the same person at the same time, or if I got it from him. I just know that I knew I was doomed. He is still not over it completely and of course I am not either. I think I might survive though. I don't know if it is the swine flu or just one of any other billion different strains that are waiting to pounce on any innocent victim. It has been 4 and a half days since I have left the house and I won't be going out tomorrow either.

Shana, so sorry you got sick! Sounds awful. Your husband should try the gargling and noise swabbing and of course hand washing that helps with prevention. (I wrote about it.)
