I wrote this poem about flu season and flying after returning home Thursday from a business trip.
The man on the plane sitting next to me
Coughed, snorted and proceeded to sneeze
Oh no I thought, he has the flu
A three-hour flight, what should I do?
I tried my best to turn away
The more he sneezed, the more I prayed
Please let me find an empty seat
A healthy person I must meet
The plane was full I hate to say
I had no choice I had to stay
Stuck beside the sickly male
His face distressed and ghostly pale
I thought about my sanitizer
Would the sicky be the wiser?
If I slathered on some gel
Would it save me, keep me well?
Boston loomed light years away
In-flight germs like dancers swayed
I pray I left the flu behind
Not feeling so hot, though...hope it's all in my mind!

Post a CommentWhat a great poem! Such an unexpected yet timely subject, and I was so entertained. I certainly hope you didn't really get sick!
Very good poem, Cathy! I enjoyed reading every line. I'll be flying next November, so I pray the swine flu will disappear by next year!
Oh no! Hope you survived unscathed- although I don't think I've ever felt entirely healthy after being on a plane. :)
Awesome poem, Cathy! I hope you are doing well! :)
You know Cath, come Black Friday - everyone forgets about the flu! Huddled together in check-out lines, the chance of cross contamination has to be greater than a plane ride! Cheers.
Good one! Another reason not to fly:)
Great poem.
Hope you did not catch anything. Planes are worst as far as germs go. Stay healthy and have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
