Flying Off to Freedom

Donna Cavanagh
We all wish at times that we could pick up stakes
Go somewhere distant and start anew
New home, new job - new life to live
Only our dreams to ponder and pursue

To be free of our daily grind and routine
Can become a powerful temptation
We can fantasize a carefree life
Without the chains of commitment and obligation

Think again about that carefree life
That fantasy existence that you envision
Imagine it without those chains to bog you down
That freedom you desire might become your prison

For a life without those ties that bind
Can lead to a life that is lived in frustration
Being able to fly off without a care in the world
May not create a life of happiness but one of isolation

So take that vacation even if it's in your mind
And soak up the freedom for awhile
But then take a look at those chains in your life
And realize they are the faces that make you smile

Wow, I really liked this one. I was agreeing with the beginning, and then the ending made me disagree with the beginning. Really gives you something to think about.

Freedom IS a state of mind, and joy can be obtained without being "happy" all the time.

This reminds me of the responsibility it takes to care for plants and flowers, yet you are rewarded in the long run.
