FMV Dog Food: A Review

Chen Salis
Money is tight around my house right now, as I am sure it is with many other people due to these grim economic times. In an effort to save a little money I purchased my dogs a bag of FMV, or For Maximum Value dog food, made by the Kroger company.

I did not think my dogs would actually eat this very inexpensive dog food, they can be picky and they are spoiled rotten. My original intention was to mix this 4 pound bag of food in with their standard Ol' Roy Krunchy Bits and Bones to stretch their food out longer.

As I opened the no frills bag, my large dog stuck his head in the bag and started eating it, directly from the bag. I was shocked! Instead of immediately mixing FMV in with their normal food I offered each dog a small dish of this generic store brand dog food to see if they would really eat it. They both dove right in and happily ate the food.

My mom said "You cannot feed that to your dogs! It is not nutritionally complete!" I said "Oh, it is so! It is just a basic no frills dog food mom."

For Maximum Value dog food contains 21% protein and it is nutritionally complete. It just does not have any special flavorings. In a nutshell it is simple plain old dog food. My dogs actually like this brand and flavor of food. It is affordable, it costs about two dollars per four pound bag or five dollars for a 15-20 pound bag.

I am considering making the switch to For Maximum Value dog food until my financial outlook improves. I eat a lot of FMV label foods these days, so I figure if this label of food is good enough for me, it is good enough for my dogs.

For Maximum Value is a product you can trust. Kroger backs the product up with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you aren't pleased with FMV dog food, you can return it to the store for a replacement or a full refund.

Times are tough, I think it is foolish to pay for a fancy picture on a bag of dog food personally. Kroger has helped us through these tough times by offering a good quality of food in a no frills packaging. I will most likely buy this brand many more times and I would recommend it to other pet owners. As log as your dog doesn't require a special diet and is healthy and visits the vet on a regular basis you should have no worries about purchasing FMV nutritionally complete dog food.
