Focus

April Higney
She quickly shifted her eyes in a different direction,

avoiding his stare,

hoping he would not see too deeply into her heart,

as the sun poured through the blinds, setting golden rays upon her hair.

He moved closer,

gently turning her toward him,

a hand softly placed upon her own.

She trembled slightly at the warmth,

and attempted to reposition her thoughts,

but before she could,

his lips touched hers.

Her hands moving up to his face,

her fingers trailing upon his neck, shaking.

Eyes closing,

passion waking,

as though never felt,

yet rendered in emotional submission,

an ecstacy to which she had feared would not last,

yet he, moving closer still was not without his own pain upon his past,

as he shared this same place with her,

yet fate crossed their hearts,

in destiny the comforts.

His whispers through her hair into her ear,

as desires overflowed, into the night,

and all of darkness

was lit within the twinkling of their eyes,

focus,

in the same direction.
