Foil Nail Polish Vs. Glitter Nail Polish: Which is Better?

Gwendolyn Taylor
With new innovations in the nail art industry, retailers have been coming up with different ways to add a little bit of glam and sparkle to their collection. Foil nail polishes and glitter nail polishes have been becoming an increasingly popular trend. Yet, for nail polish connoisseurs and beginning alike, which is more suitable and likeable? Here is a helpful breakdown between the two.

Foil Nail Polish
Foil nail polish, also known as foil nail art, is a more recent trend and comes in two forms: polish, and decal with a primer kit. The polish form is the most easiest to use, but may be more constrictive in the creativity department. Brands such as ORLY have coming out with foil themed nail polishes that are easy to use. However, with the decal and primer kits, you can custom design your own nail art and can play around with color and theme on one nail. The print is also more clear and distinctive, but the downside of the decal with primer kits is that it takes a much longer time to apply. Basically, a primer base must be applied first, and once dried then the foil arts decals can be meticulously applied one by one. Afterwards, a foil sealer must be applied to ensure stability. In general, foil nail polishes and art designs are not as easy accessible in stores and tend to cost more.

Glitter Nail Polish

Glitter nail polishes are the simplest way to add a hint of glimmer to your appearance. Brands such as OPI and China Glaze are notorious for their glitter based polishes and their variety of colors in their collections. There are different forms of glitter nail polishes. Some come in chunky, sparse formulas, and others come in miniature, dense formulas. The miniature, dense formulas take less time to apply in between coats ( and take less coats) but may not be as sparkly and eye-catching as the chunky, sparse formulas. However, the chunky, dense formulas tend to be much more difficult to remove. Glitter nail polishes in general are more accessible for purchase in stores (beauty and mass merchandise) and generally cost a lot less than foil based nail polishes.
