The device has two platforms for your feet to step on. They move up and down simulating the way you would move if you were climbing up a flight of stairs. Attached to the platform is a pole that holds up the handrails and the digital control panel.
For the price, I am impressed with how solid this product feels. It sits flat on the floor and does not rock. I feel fully supported when I put my hands on the handrails and have never worried about falling off. The pole adjusts up and down to make the product an appropriate size for people of different heights.
The computer tracks your heart rate, pace, calories burned, time, distance, and number of steps. The handgrips have pulse sensors to track your heart rate so you do not need to buy another device to do this. I like that the screen is large so that I can see it easily while it is moving. The computer runs of 2 AA batteries so you do not need to be near an electrical outlet to use the stepper. The screen will shut off automatically after five minutes of non-use to save the batteries.
The stepper was easy to assemble, taking me about 20 minutes. The directions were surprisingly clear.
While I would never suggest you replace your gym membership or other exercise regime with just using this product, it is a great addition to burn some extra calories. I like having a piece of cardio equipment at home that I can use in front of the TV whenever I feel like it. The stepper also comes in handy if you are having a busy day and can't spare the time out of the house to get in a good workout.
Overall, I have been using it for about two years and have not yet had a problem with it. For the price, the product is just what I was looking for.
