Folgers Simply Smooth Coffee: Finally a Coffee Gentle on the Stomach!!

For the past four years I have been dealing with acid reflux, and have not been enjoying those morning cups of coffee like I used to. I've tried everything, even searching for hours online for a good low acid coffee, but could not come up with any that fit the bill and tasted good. Out of desperation I resorted to buying the coffee substitute Postum, which is both fat-free and caffeine-free, but it didn't taste enough like coffee to suit me. I even purchased special additives that are supposed to take the acid out of coffee, but those were not effective either. I thought I had to give up my morning coffee.

Then one day I noticed a coffee on my grocers shelf that I had never seen before, Folgers Simply Smooth Decaf, that claims to be gentle on your stomach! I didn't even think twice before putting it in my shopping cart.

About Simply Smooth
This coffee comes in a green plastic tub, weighing 11.5 ounces. There is an easy to remove silver foil aroma seal that keeps the coffee fresh, and a plastic lid that pops on and off quite easily. The label claims this coffee is mountain grown with great taste, and is a medium strength roast. I didn't see any Simply Smooth coffee's with a darker roast, they all said medium.

Folgers claims this coffee is specially roasted to be gentle on the sensitive stomachs, while preserving the smooth, aromatic Folgers taste. It is 100% pure coffee and 99.7% caffeine free. Folgers uses natural methods to decaffeinate this coffee, with pure water and other natural ingredients. They roast the coffee beans in a way that reduces irritants that can bother those of us with sensitive stomachs.

The 11.5 ounce cannister makes 80 to 90 6 ounce servings, depending on how strong you brew it. The directions call for one tablespoon for 6 ounces, or 1/2 cup of coffee for ten 6 ounce servings. Folgers makes Simply Smooth in both regular and decaffeinated.

My Experience
First and foremost, if my coffee doesn't taste good, I won't drink it. Having been disappointed in every other coffee with reduced acid, I was skeptical of Folgers Simply Smooth, but felt it was worth $5 to give it a try. Folgers Simply Smooth is a couple dollars more in cost than their normal coffee, but it's worth every penny and then some!

I was pleasantly surprised by how good Folgers Simply Smooth tasted! Finally, a good tasting decaffeinated coffee that doesn't irritate my acid refulx problem. In the past, I have only been able to drink one cup of coffee and had to stop or else invite heartburn and chest pain. Since I've been using Simply Smooth, I can confidently drink that second and third cup without worrying about paying the price! What a blessing!

As the name implies, Simply Smooth has a great smooth taste with no bitterness. My husband actually likes a more bitter coffee, so this Folgers product is just for me. I don't like bitter coffee, and Folgers really came through for me! No more stomach problems, no more pain from acid reflux!

I love the plastic cannister as well. Most coffee comes in either a bag or a metal can, and those metal cans usually leave sharp edges on the top inside of the can. No worries with this design, I love the style and wish all coffee came in cannisters like this one. I will save the cannisters and use them to store sugar, flour and other such foods in our motorhome! The cannister also keeps my coffee smelling fresh and tasting great right down to the last scoop!

My husband prefers a darker roast, but I find the the medium roast of Simply Smooth gives me a smooth velvety taste. If you suffer from heartburn, acid refulx, or indigestion after drinking coffee, give Folgers Simply Smooth a try. You have nothing to lose but the heartburn!
