What can you expect in Royal Oak at the corners of West 4th Street and South Main on a Friday night? The sounds of folk and bluegrass, of course! Providing an interesting contrast to stores like Noir Leather (the adult leather and novelty shop) that was just down the street, the band Petal Shop gave downtown visitors a taste of some fine Kentucky bluegrass mixed in with their folk-inspired tunes.

Petal Shop consists of Alex Webb on bass, Andrew Maslowsky on guitar, fiddle player Ashley Lake, and banjo player Daniel Gellasch. They played a variety of songs, mostly from their most recent album "City Hymns" on the cool evening of Friday the 15th. Their music was refreshing and homespun in a way that made me yearn for the days of skipping rocks on a pond or reading something timeless in a hayloft. A few listeners even showed off some dance moves.

I have provided a link to their website, which gives a list of upcoming performances. If you want to get a feel for some top flight bluegrass and folk, you might want to check them out.
