The Follette's are well known in the realm of pottery, they have a reputation earned over years of perfection in the art of pottery. The intense beauty of this work is difficult to put into words, in fact, the cliché that words alone can't describe the beauty of this pottery comes into play. The magic of the moment; when someone first sees those wonderful colors and realizes, they'll be able to eat from them, cook with them, even hold Hummingbird juice in them, it is a magical experience. The Follette's have provided service at a modest fee for hundreds of thousands of admirers, becoming somewhat of a local attraction within Ruston.
Visiting the facility where the craft occurs is a mixture of amazement, openness and wonder. Amazement in that from such apparent disorder can emerge the marvelous order which gives form to the function of this pottery. Openness in that this shop is placed in the woods, sits beside a lake, and the Follette's residence, and yet, reaches around the globe to bless people with the wonder of gorgeous color and artful consideration so evident in Kent's design and work. Wonder meets you head on as you realize that this artist rends this clay into vessels which help people have better lives.
As you leave the pottery plant you get the feeling that there is more to this company than one can take in from a short but wondrous tour; and if you are able to visit the shop in Ruston, off interstate 20, where they display and sell many of their wares; as well as, continue to seek to serve folks by finding out what they need; you will become entranced in the fabulous frailty of this artists ways. The shop is unique; from the floors to the ceilings, unique in design, in color and in atmosphere. As you meet "Mrs. Libby," you see that smile, and as you walk past the open door of the office, you may get greeted by the happy yips of "Sophie," the wonder dog; and the atmosphere of the multi-colored patterns in the floor, and large beamed wooden ceilings takes you in.
Perhaps it is then that you begin to understand how important it is that artistry such as this exists. Perhaps it is later as you reflect on how deeply warming her smile was, behind the counter; or perhaps you note how nice it is to shop some where the soulfulness is openness and delightful. Maybe you will let these words capture your imagination enough to make you want to visit this wonderful pottery center, or maybe, you will let the idea of such freedom and creativity existing in such a "laid back," working atmosphere; truly involve in you this "out of the box," place in Ruston, Louisiana; called Follette's Fine Pottery.
