Road 2 a Cure, a massive 50-state awareness event, began in Santa Barbara, CA and features founder Chris Calaprice, a six-year survivor who is sick of hearing that the disease is a death sentence. He is also a melanoma skin cancer survivor.
"Austin Texas on the Road 2 a Cure" takes place March 6 from 12 to 3 and includes barbecue, music, and a raffle at NaPalm Motorsports, 12112 RR N620 and is the next stop on the tour. All bikers, riders, and non-riders are welcome.
Registration, details, and tour info can be found at http://road2acure.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=346572. You may also contact William Feller at 512-627-6421.
"Currently the survival rate for pancreatic cancer is just five percent beyond five years," Calaprice writes.
The distance of 42,000 represents one mile for each person who will be diagnosed in the U.S. with pancreatic cancer this year, he says.
"Victory Motorcycles has very generously jumped on board to sponsor Chris and Road 2 a Cure as well as Level Studios and the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association (ATRA)," states a press release.
Jennifer, Calaprice's wife, who cofounded Road 2 a Cure, began fighting against the disease in October 2003 when Calaprice was diagnosed.

In Sept. 2007, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Supporter Joan Burge found out her spouse David of more than three decades had been diagnosed with the illness. During his treatment, David's caregivers at UCLA's Ted Mann Family Resource Center referred Joan to the Network, which provided useful resources for her to learn about the new world in which the couple found themselves.
"From my first phone call I felt someone really cared and that there were people who could give me answers or at least lead me to resources to help me understand," stated Joan in an article in the Network's Outreach Magazine. "Now the picture is even more luminous."
As Joan bean to learn more about the comprehensive mission of the Network, she knew she wanted to become involved and give back.
