Learning Plan:
Introductory Activity ( __5__ min.)
The teacher will give the students two sets of directions to construct a paper airplane. The first set of directions will be incomplete, ambiguous, and hard to follow. The second set of directions will give the students systematic instructions using order words.
Developmental Activity( _13__ min.)
(Obj. # 1, 4) The students will give multiple sets of directions as a group. The students will look over them and identify what makes them good or bad directions. The teacher will list the characteristics of good directions on the board as the class determines them. The teacher will have a predetermined list of good direction writing characteristics for the students to follow in the application activity.
Application Activity ( _12___ min.)
(Obj. # 2,3 ) The students will be given materials to construct/perform/or complete a task. One student will make a material and then have to instruct another student how to copy the material they made. The students will be given a task, but they are not permitted to tell their partner what that task is. A few groups of students will be selected to perform their directions for the class. The students will make directions for other students by applying the characteristics of good directions that we listed in class.
