Food Art Pictures

Kay Whittenhauer
In case you've never heard of food art, it's pretty much a self-explanatory term: food that looks like art. Some of the better-known examples of food art are gingerbread houses, watermelon baskets, and frosting roses. While some food art is clearly food arranged in amazingly clever ways, other food art creations don't look like food at all. Here are some examples of both types:

Edible Arrangements is a company known for its food art. Edible Arrangements' centerpieces clearly look like fruit cut into flower shapes, and that's the whole appeal of them. These centerpieces are clever, fun, and practical. Take a look at some of Edible Arrangement's offerings here.

Bento box food art is so cool! It started in Japan, and has made it's way into pop culture world-wide. In Japan some lunch boxes are called bento boxes. When Japanese moms began creating food art scenes in their children's bento boxes, the name stuck and is now used to describe any type of Asian edible food art served in a box. Bento box creations for kids includes rice shaped into panda bears, little pigs, and even Hello Kitty. Check out bento box food art pictures here.

Animal fruit sculptures. FoodGarnishing.com has some really cute food sculptures! The Happy Easter Melon Rabbit is one of my favorites. The Easter Bunny's head is a cantaloupe with grapes for eyes and very clever placement of cantaloupe slices for ears. You can take a look at it here. There are also apple birds and a honeydew swan on their site.

"Flower arrangements". These examples are so incredible it's hard to believe that they're food art and not actual flowers. They really look like flower arrangements but they're carved from common vegetables. You have to see this for yourself- it's nothing like Edible Arrangements (which is cool in it's own right). Cake as food art isn't exactly a new concept, but shows like Food Network's Ace of Cakes have brought cake decorating to a new height. Check out Duff holding a cake that looks like a giant order of fries, on top of a giant hot dog, and top of a giant hamburger.

Gingerbread houses. If you love looking at pictures of gingerbread houses, these are some of the best gingerbread house pictures on the web. They're absolutely amazing! Months of work go into creating these awesome gingerbread houses, and it shows!
