Food on the Go that Won't Weigh You Down

Fast times call for fast snacks. This no longer means grabbing a Snicker bars. On the go snacks are now a healthy way to get you going when you don't have time to eat a full meal.

The following quick snack ideas are fun and easy things you can grab as a mid afternoon snack for a quick pick me up, or munch in the car on your way to work. Move over muffins, these on the go snacks take the cake.

Yogurt: Go-Gurt by Yoplait is a portable tube of yogurt. No spoon required. You can eat it on your way out the door, store it in the freezer and it will be cold by lunch, or have it straight out of the freezer for a delicious frozen treat that comes in at less then 100 calories. If you would prefer an organic on the go yogurt you can try Yo Squeeze by Stoneyfield farms.

Protein Bars: These are not the boring rubbery protein bars of the 1990's, they now make protein bars that taste a lot more like candy bars. They come in a variety of flavors and brands. Some to check out include the Balance bar, Zone Perfect, and E.A.S. bars.

Almonds: For the crunch you desire and the protein your body craves buy a bag of almonds, separate it into one ounce servings, and you have a pick me up that is good for you.

Trail Mix: Trail mix will provide you with protein to stave off that mid afternoon slump. Planters makes individual Energy Trail mix packs that you can pop in your purse for when you need a snack.

Raw Vegetables: Carrot and celery sticks are always a solid snack to have on hand. Once a week cut up carrot and celery stick, put them in individual bags, and you are good to go for the rest of the week.

String Cheese and Crackers: String cheese is an easy dose of protein, when you add in a starch like wheat thins or another healthy cracker you have a complete snack that is good for you and easy to do.

Snacking smart is easy to do with pre-planning. If you know what your options are and why they are good for you, then grabbing a milkshake because your stomach is growling will not be your first option. Weight loss and weight maintenance will be easier and you will feel much better about yourself.
