Nachos are a staple at many parties. Instead of plain salsa, try livening them up with a nacho dip. Most of these are variations of the following: A base of sour cream, cream cheese, and taco seasoning, then a layer of salsa, or of diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce, and then a layer of shredded cheese, and some recipes call for olives or onions as well. One of the many recipes for this can be found here.
For a sweeter poker party, sugar cookies can be cut into hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades with cookie cutters and colored with black and red frosting. Square cookies can also be made to look like dice with strategically placed chocolate chips.
Buffalo wings can be purchased from your local deli or supermarket and are an easy but messy snack. Make sure you have plenty of paper towels, and eat between hands! Delis also offer supersized subs and snack platters, but yo usually have to order ahead.
If these treats aren't up your alley then maybe a bowl of some party mix, readily available in the grocery store, chips, or pretzels is enough for your crowd. For drinks, soda will normally do. For an under-21 or alcohol free party, try buying glass bottles of soda, like IBC Root Beer or Jones Soda and they should lend an authentic feel to the mood.
