Anyone over the age of forty will agree...time really does fly. And it seems to fly by faster and faster every year. And as time goes by our bodies get older and less resilient. But what is even worse is that time can have a damaging effect on our minds as well. I remember thinking as a kid how older people seem to be sort of slow in their thinking. Now I wonder whether those people I thought that way about back then were about the same age as I am now! Well, the bad news is that there is no way to stop the constant marching on of the clock. But there is some good news too. You can keep up the fight against aging simply by changing your diet.
Sure, we have all heard of how changing our diet can help us stay healthier and even younger. But did you know that this applies not only to our bodies, but our minds as well? That's right. Changing your diet can keep your mind younger and healthier too. And who doesn't want that? Here are some foods that can keep your mind young. Just add them to you daily diet and enjoy!
Blueberries
Not only are blueberries delicious, they are great for your brain cells! Blueberries contain compounds known to protect your brain from processes that cause aging. Namely, they protect against oxidation and inflammation. And by the way, these processes have been linked to the onset of Alzheimer's disease. So start enjoying these lovely berries. I like to add them to my cereal, but they are great all on their own as a snack.
Eggs
Those of us old enough to remember can recall the bad reputation given to eggs due to their cholesterol content. But since those days, eggs have been making a come back. Not only because they don't contain as much bad cholesterol as originally thought. But because they are quite healthy for you. You should still eat eggs in moderation, but eggs contain a substance called selenium, which can help keep your brain performing at the level of someone who is 10 years younger. Fifty-five micrograms per day of the stuff can do the trick. Each egg contains about 14 micrograms.
Mustard
When I was a kid, I used to really hate mustard. In fact, I would put ketchup on my hot dogs instead of using mustard. I would now consider ketchup on a hot dog to be a sin! So what does mustard have that ketchup doesn't? Mustard contains a spice called tumeric, which helps to activate genes that help keep your brain free of waste. It is the buildup of waste that can lead to inflammation, which in turn can destroy brain cells. By the way, tumeric is found in yellow mustard. About a teaspoon worth of mustard contains enough tumeric for a daily dose.
There are lots of other foods that can keep your mind young. But these should help get you started. Enjoy, stay healthy, and live long!
