Tips to Help You Save the Most Money on Your Next Grocery Trip

Carly Hart
The Food Lion chain of stores encompasses 1,200 stores in 11 states, including my own state of Virginia. Since Food Lions here in Virginia typically do not double coupons like other major chain stores, I have had to find other ways to help lessen my grocery bill at my local Food Lion. To get the most bang for my buck, I've turned to the Internet and other technology to help me save money. Below are four money saving Food Lion shopping tips to help you save money on your next grocery trip.

Food Lion Shopping Tip #1: Are you into texting?

If you want in on some exclusive Food Lion coupons, you might want to consider using your texting fingers to text them to add coupons to your VIP card. This option is probably best for those who have unlimited texts through their cellular phone carrier. In past months, I have seen high value coupons and even free ones available to mobile Food Lion customers.

Food Lion Shopping Tip #2: Shopper's Companion is a must

Be sure to sign up to receive your own Shopper's Companion via email, which includes weekly ads, specials and Food Lion printable coupons. Did you know that the coupons in your Shopper's Companion can vary by location? A friend of mine forwards her Shopper's Companion to me and I email mine to hers to make sure that we don't miss out on any Food Lion printable coupons.

Food Lion Shopping Tip #3: Social Media is the place to be to save money at Food Lion

Not all coupons or sales are well advertised and staying in contact with Food Lion via twitter and Facebook is a smart money saving strategy. Learn about special coupons and read some deal discussion on their Facebook page. Fans are happy to share links to other printable coupons to combine with sales and to share other hidden deals you may not be aware of on your own. While there is some overlap in store specials and promotions, it is good to keep tabs on Food Lion via both social media sites.

Food Lion Shopping Tip #4: Deal sites are also a great resource for Food Lion shoppers

Visit sites such as A Full Cup to read more deal discussion and sale/coupon match ups. In addition, though every store is different, readers will share their clearance finds with others, which may be worth checking out. Another good site to find Food Lion deals is Hot Coupon World. Couponistas from these sites share their Food Lion shopping tips and trips in a public forum, making it easy for busy moms to subscribe to threads and be alerted when a new discussion is begun.

I use FL site to view weekly fliers all the time to plan what to spend. Keeps me from having to go to the store to get one since I don't get a newspaper. FL use to give out a lot of coupons at the register and I haven't got one for awhile, they must have stopped or limited it. We have a Bottom Dollar store nearby that is a Food Lion outlet store and the specials are really good bargains sometimes, bring your own bags since they don't have any.
