A friend said that to me the other day, and I laughed it off. While those two women, Rachel Ray especially, do seem to be on the channel quite a bit, there are enough chefs on the channel to make it worth watching. Then the Food Network did something completely unexpected: they fired Robert Irvine.
Robert Irvine is the host of one the more popular shows on the Food Network, Dinner Impossible. This show spoofs the old television series Mission Impossible. Irvine arrives in an undisclosed location, and it given a seemingly impossible task to perform. Among those tasks was created a dinner for a large group of soldiers prior to shipping off to Iraq, cooking dinner on an old fashioned chuck wagon, and making a meal on a deserted island.
Through it all Robert Irvine has managed to bring light and humor into even the most impossible situations, and gained quite a following on the Food Network. His first cookbook, baring the same name as his television show, was released in 2007. Women seemed to love the show because of his easy demeanor and bulging biceps, even Paula Deen herself has expressed some delight at his appearance. Men too loved the show, because they had a real man cooking on television.
Irvine is a far cry from the other Food Network favorites including Tyler Florence, the Deen boys, and Bobby Flay. He was more of a rough and tumble British bloke, and was known to kick back with fellow television chef Guy Fiere (host of "Dinners, Drive Ins, and Dives"). Then it was announced that the Food Network would not be renewing Robert Irvine's show, or contract after this season.
It seems as though some of the stellar information Irvine listed on his contract wasn't quite true. Among those accomplishments, the chef claimed he was a knight, had been a personal chef to Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and had been given a castle in Scotland by the Queen herself. None of these claims it turns out, were quite true. The St. Petersburg Times out of Florida revealed the information in an expose on the celeb chef. In response the Food Network has decided to air the remaining episodes from this season, and then stop the chef's contract.
In response Irvine stated, "I met people with all this money, it was like trying to keep up with the Joneses. I was sitting in a bar one night and that came out. It was stupid."
Robert Irvine is far from the only man ever to lie after a few drinks in a bar, yet he loses his job for the mistake, disappointing fans everywhere. I love the Food Network, and I have for quite awhile, but there are only a few reasons that I do watch the channel. I loved the Deen boys, who saw their show removed from the air, Duff, Mary Alice, and the whole group from Ace of Cakes, and anything that Guy Fiere is on. These people are regular, every day folks who just happen to have a television show. They are not trying to make up perfect cooks, but simply sharing their experiences with us.
The Food Network consistently pushes Rachel Ray on us. During one particular day she had six different shows on in one single 24-hour period. That's fine and dandy if you like Rachel Ray, but I don't. Her over eager and chipper demeanor makes it hard for me to watch, or enjoy her cooking methods. I prefer those chefs that are willing to swear if things don't go right, or who aren't always perfect. That's the reason why I watch Robert Irvine.

Post a CommentChef Robert Irvine has paid his dues now for his misfortunes. It is time to bring him back and BRING HIM BACK NOW. You can get of the firer Johnson because she was so exited about Ray (if you want to take anyone of the air IT IS RACHEL RAY WHO FOODNETWORK, IS NOT A CHEF NOR PAULA DEEN. Shouldn't they fire you folks for trying to pull the wool over our eyes by identifying two jokes as chefs when they are not!!!!!!!!! WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHEF IRVINE AND THOSE TWO LOSERS!!!!!!!!! Time to square accounts and bring back Chef Irvine and get off your power kick. Take a pool whether fire you dummies or BRING BACK CHEF IRVINE and you will be out of a job. Get started on his rehiring and your stepping down. Thanks.
regarding Robert Irvine;
I am sure 90% of us drinker's at least one time in our live's. Have fibbed about thing's and still had our job's
the next day. It is not like he commited a crime. I hope to see him on his own food show, I am sure it will be awesome.
Liars should not be rewarded.
Robert Irvine, he was great, why dont they bring him back , put him on a diffrent show. Leave the other iron chef on Dinner Immpossible. cut down on racheal rays shows, you can only take so much. they should also bring back the hardy boys , i loved their show. food network, should also revamp, some new shows for the holiday season.
Oh Robert! You can't do that! Make all of us fall in love with you and then disappear! (Is your name really Robert? haha) Here's what you do...find another network like Tony Bourdain did, and I promise you we will all be switching channels faster than you can say 'blimey'. I don't know why I love your show, though. Fifteen minutes in and I'm already reaching for a rum and coke from the stress! xoxo Ps. Now that you have a successful show to put on your resume, you probably can leave off the other stuff about, well, you know...
So Robert Irvine stretched on his resume...that we would be Food Network fault for not checking things out....so what ....he meets the challenge head on and he is very entertaining...funny....and can cook. It would be a shame that the show gets canceled. He has proven himself and has a loyal following
Save Robert Irvine

Having tried a number of Rachel Ray's recipes, the quality varies widely. She gets points from me for being perky but sometimes it is a bit too much perkiness, depending on the day and my mood. However, she certainly has a positive outlook on cooking and even experimentation. Phrases like, "just eyeball it" and "EVOO" (extra virgin olive oil) are stuck in my mind.
You do not lie on a resume, if you do and are caught you are fired. Now that is what happens to "everyday" folks. And a side note, The Food Network should have verifyed his claims.
I love Robert Irvine!!! Obviously he does know how to cook.I enjoy his show and I will be unhappy if it really isn't renewed. You can see he is a hard worker and aims to please.Food Network is guilty of not fact checking! Wish I could say fantastic things on a resume but it would never fly!!1
