Food Party to Return to the Automat on the Independent Film Channel This April

Thu Tran is Back on IFC!

As Thu would say, Hello friends and lovers!

This April 22nd at 10:00pm, the Independent Film Channel (IFC) brings back one of its most popular shows, Food Party. Not only popular, but insanely weird and artistic, Food Party brings to life the child like dreams still living within the minds of adults.

Thu Tran, the host and creator, uses muppet-like puppets, paper mache, food and various other props to create unique and odd scenarios for her viewers. Although she was born in Malaysia, Thu Tran was raised here in the States. It was here that she developed her unique talents into award winning displays of her abilities. The show has been dubbed the adult version of Sesame Street, but to me it seems more like Sesame Street in Wonderland.

Thu Tran is the life of the show with her fun personality and expressive voice. She masterfully commands the set, directing props and placing herself in distinct situations (such as squeezing caviar out of the mouth of a fish, which just happens to be a man's head). Many episodes include Thu's cardboard house as the main setting, which includes a kitchen where she prepares the oddest creations known to man, all for our viewing pleasure.

While Thu's main love is food, she artfully uses it to tie elements of the story together. The recipes are typically weird and inedible, but made to seem delicious by the odd characters in the show. Thu's wild actions, quick and extensive costume changes and radical use of controversial topics (such as giving birth to a cat that takes off in a rocket to go to outer space), make Food Party a must-see for anyone who loves the fun and unique. Artistic in every way, Food Party is a dream come true for artists and lovers of anything different.

The magical creatures add to the specialty of the show and enhance Thu's environment. Thu interacts with them as though they are regular people, never paying any mind to the weirdness of it all (such as a hunter with a map of the area growing in his chest hair). Each episode of Food Party on IFC is unique and fun for adults that want to be reminded of what it is like to take a step back into imagination. We all need a little childhood occasionally, and Thu does a great job of blending art with fantasy and childhood ideals.

This April 22nd, tune into the Automat on IFC for the Season Premiere of Food Party. Be open minded and prepared to laugh at the creations of such a talented and unique individual.
