Food Product Review: Nips Peanut Butter Parfait Candy

Paula Myers
Nips are a delicous hard candy made by Nestle. Nips have been around for over 70 years, originally known as Pearson Nips. The "Pearson" name was dropped when Nestle bought Nips in 1989. Nips are a milk-based hard caramel which makes it smooth and creamy. There are two different varieties of Nips candy: solid and parfaits. The Nips Parfaits have a hard outer shell with a rich creamy center.

Nips candy come in a Regular and Sugar Free variety. There are also seven flavors to choose from: Butter Rum, Caramel, Chocolate Parfait, Coffee, Dulce de Leche, Mocha, and Peanut Butter Parfait. Nips come in several different size packages that range from 5.5 ounce boxes for $1.49 each to 22 ounce bags for $4.99. You can find Nips at any store such as Walmart, Target, Walgreens, or Kroger.

I purchased several 5.5 ounce boxes of Nips Peanut Butter Parfait candy at Walgreens. They were on sale. I had a manufacturers coupon and used a store coupon from their sale ad too. On the front of the box, it shows a Nips Parfait candy cut in half with the filling starting to ooze out. I love peanut butter and hard candy so I knew it would be something that I would like. Nips has 30 calories in each piece of their calorie, so it's definitely not a low calorie food.

I opened a box of the Nips Peanut Butter Parfait candy when I got home. I anxiously unwrapped one of the pieces and tasted it. Nips reminds you of Werthers candy a little. The caramel taste was smooth and creamy. Once I got closer to the center, the peanut butter filling started coming through the hard candy shell. The peanut butter was delicious like I knew it would be.

Don't ever make the mistake of biting the candy expecting to crunch it after the candy gets small. You will be sorry. The candy stuck to my teeth and it took me several minutes to free it. Nips is great as long as you don't bite into it. Just be sure to let the entire candy dissolve in your mouth. Nips are quite addicting though and it's hard to stop eating them. At 30 calories each, the calories can add up really quick.

I will definitely buy Nips Peanut Butter Parfait candy again. I really like the delicious caramel and peanut butter taste. Next time, I'll buy some of the other flavors. Nips would be something great to go in gift baskets too or in Christmas stockings. Next time you're at the store, be sure to check out Nips.

Nips are a favorite here and I've yet to try the peanut butter flavor. You are so right about their impact on the teeth. They've pulled filling out of our teeth! I love them though, delicious. Nice review!
