Food Product Review - SoyJoy Nutrition Bars Aren't Fit for Human Consumption
Don't Waste Your Money on This Terrible Tasting Snack Food
The SoyJoy Nutrition Bars are touted as a whole new kind of nutrition bar made from natural ingredients, like dried apples, raisins, mangos and berries mixed with whole soy that hasn't been genetically engineered. Yes, I have to agree that sounds very good. I filled out the form for the SoyJoy Bars and about three weeks later they arrived at my house. Oh, how excited I was! Everyone loves to receive free goodies, and I'm no exception. And something to eat too!
I eagerly opened up the box and was overjoyed to see my three free SoyJoy bars inside. There were threel different flavors; Apple, Raisin Almond and Berry. I didn't know which one to try first, so I closed my eyes and randomly picked one out of the box. Eagerly, I ripped open the wrapper of the chosen bar, The Berry SoyJoy bar. Inside the wrapper was a very dense, dark-colored oblong brick. Was this actually the SoyJoy bar? I was also overwhelmed by the smell of molasses, and it looked and smelled like something that had been in my refrigerator for at least six months. But I was still very optimistic. After all, these were my free SoyJoy bars, and they had to be good! Why else would they send out free samples to anyone who wants them?
Gingerly, I took a bite of the SoyJoy Berry Bar and immediately my feeling of joyful glee changed into one of disgust. The bar tasted like dirt! It did have the slightest hint of berry but this was overpowered by the taste of rank old dirt. Who would buy such a disgustingly tasting snack bar? I shook my head and immediately threw it in the trash.
The following day, I bravely decided to give the other two bars a try. They couldn't possibly be as bad as the Berry SoyJoy bar. But when I opened up the Raisin Almond Bar, I saw the same long oblong bar again that I saw the day before. Cautiously, I took a bite of the Raisin Almond SoyJoy bar. This one tasted like dirt too and no one in their right mind would ever eat such a snack bar. I sat it aside and opened up the last Apple bar, but surprisingly this one was actually a bit better than the other two. It could be stomached if stranded on a desert island, but it still had a terrible texture, was dark and didn't taste good at all. It definitely scored a zero on the scale of enjoyment. I tore the remaining two bars into little pieces and gave them to my cat and dog. They ate them, even though I had my doubts. Perhaps the soy bars should be labeled as dog or cat food instead.
The label on the SoyJoy bars states that they contain indigestible dextrin. Just what is indigestible dextrin? I've never seen it for sale at the store, and so I goggled indigestible dextrin and found a patent on it which states:
The indigestible dextrin being prepared by adding hydrochloric acid to potato starch and heating the potato starch at 120° to 200° C. using an extruder.
Now, that sounds quite appetizing. Hydrochloric acid? Let's have a cup full of that for lunch! Can I have a second helping too?
I have a long history of eating soy. I've been a vegetarian on and off for most of my life, and I regularly eat soy products. Soy foods can be delicious if properly prepared. I even own a soy milk maker and have made homemade tofu from the soymilk. I know that okara is the soy pulp that's left over after extraction of the milk. It can be used to make soy "meat balls", soy patties, and soy "eggs" and is absolutely delicious. It can even be used as a fertilizer for the yard. I know how to marinate tofu and make a soy sandwich that most people will swear is meat. But nothing prepared me for the gritty, dank taste of these free SoyJoy bars.
The flyer that came with the bars states that I should share these bars with friends. No thanks, I care much more about my friends than that. When I gave them to my dog and cat I was unsure whether they would eat them, and I'm supposed to give these bars to humans?
If you want the health benefits of soy, I highly advise not to buy this product. This product will not be in the store next year. After one bite of any of these bars, no one will ever buy them again.

- Soy Joy Health Bars - Not a Joy The taste of this health bar had a definite hint of Mango but not enough in my opinion, I didn't get the Coconut flavor at all and there was a soy aftertaste that was very unpleasant.

Post a CommentNot everyone enjoys two deep fried pieces of chicken substituting real bread for a sandwich. My children love fried chicken, but they love their soyjoy bars at breakfast, too. Atleast they won't be in line for glipizide with you one day. Stick to jewelry, it's what you know.
I know this article is really old, but I just have to say something regarding feeding these bars to your pets. Raisins are toxic to dogs, so I certainly hope yours didn't eat any. Even if your dog didn't become visibly sick, it could still have a serious negative impact on its long-term health. There's a reason why you aren't supposed to haphazardly feed people food to your pets!
I agree with the reviews below. If you're celiac, you know how horrible the taste of most gluten-free food is. These bars are awesome!
I am a big fan of Soyjoy... I have celiacs disease meaning I can't eat wheat. Soyjoys are one of the few (healthy) convenience snacks widely available. It's comforting to know that I can always bop into a 7/11 for a Soyjoy, or throw one in my bag for later. They are delicious, especially with a glass of milk.
I disagree with you. I bought a box of strawberry flavor from Target last week b/c it was on sale. The next day I went for 4 more boxes! To my surprise, My husband loves Soy Joy, too. It was just $2.44 for 6 bars.
I found them in CVS, 6 per box. Got CVS bucks for the entire amount back.
Trust me they do not taste like dirt. I enjoyed them so much, I have been looking for them by the box so they weren't so costly. They're a good snack. Going to try Walmart today. Wish me luck. :)
If you think SoyJoy tastes bad, you have never tried an energy bar before. Trust me, SoyJoy tastes way better.
I have heard some disturbing things about soy though, which is what led me to this article through Google.
the soyjoy bars are terrific, even the aroma that exudes when the bar is opened, the mango coconut is awsome, the strawb, the berry ooh wee! the are all yummy, they are compact lil yummies,
Boo to the soyjoy complainers!
I LOVE SOYJOY!
I just ate an apple walnut soyjoy.
First of all, the soyjoy is soft, which is surprising if you choose a snack bar with nuts expecting it to be crunchy. Secondly, it tastes exactly like a fig newton. I love fig newtons, so I love this soyjoy. It's not exactly filling, but then again, I practically have a black hole in my stomach.. Anyway, SUCK MY SOYJOY PPATHWAYS!
