Food Recall: Over 159 Products Containing HVP

Products Infected with Salmonella Tennessee

John Gugie
On March 4, 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reported that several products are being recalled due to Salmonella Tennessee being found in one company's supply of hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), which "is a common ingredient used most frequently as a flavor enhancer in many processed foods, including soups, sauces, chilis, stews, hot dogs, gravies, seasoned snack foods, dips and dressings." This batch of HVP was distributed by Basic Food Flavors, Inc. of Las Vegas, Nevada.
