Typical for Gorton's fish fillets, these flounder fillets are breaded. The breading is flavorful but not very seasoned or spiced, which is a good thing for those who like either bland foods or the option to season the breading to their own tastes.
Costing about $6 with 5 fillets to a 17.2-ounce box, Gorton's fish fillets also are an affordable way to make a meal.
Preparation
Making Gorton's Flounder Fillets is a breeze. While you can't cook the fillets in a microwave, they are easily prepared in a conventional oven.
While preheating your oven to 425 degrees, start laying out your Gorton's flounder fillets onto a cookie sheet. Once your oven has reached the right temperature, place the cookie sheet onto the middle rack of your oven. Let the flounder fillets cook for a total of 20 to 24 minutes, turning over the fillets after about 12 minutes.
Once the flounder fillets have finished cooking and the breading has attained a nice golden color, remove the fish from the oven. I like to let the flounder fillets stand for just about a minute or so.
Flavor
Gorton's flounder fillets are really great to serve as entrees in a fish or seafood-themed dinner. The flavor is wonderfully mellow. The breading, as mentioned earlier, does not seem to have been seasoned and therefore does not overpower the fish flavor. The flounder seems to be of very high quality, as my fillets were completely white, flaky, and did not have any "mystery items" floating around.
The pieces being as large as they are, I also enjoy placing one of these flounder fillets in a hot dog roll and eating the fish as part of a sandwich (perhaps with some mayonnaise, cocktail sauce, or tartar sauce to taste).
Nutrition
