Food Review: Kirkwood Chicken Tenders from Aldi

Carol Vannoy
Trying to save money on groceries has become one of our main goals, especially for big families. Clipping coupons isn't what it use to be as so many of them are only 10 or 20 cents off. Almost isn't worth the time to clip them out unless you are one of the lucky few who has a store that doubles coupons. There is only one store near us that does and it's pricey to begin with. So the hunt begins for affordable food that tastes good.

Chicken tenders are so popular these days, especially with kids. Of course we love them too, and they can be used so many different ways. But like everything else they have gone up in price. A regular 12 oz. box of chicken tenders runs at least $3, usually more. The name brands like Tyson are around $3.99. If you are looking for a more affordable product, try Kirkwood Chicken Tenders from Aldi Foods. A 12 oz. box is $2.29. The amount of tenders per box varies but is usually around 20 to 25. We have tried the local store brands and these are better in our opinion. They are every bit as good as the higher priced brand, they just cost less. Ok so they may not be the healthiest food, but once in a while isn't going to hurt especially if you bake them which is what I do. They are better that way than fried anyway.

Chicken tenders can be eaten as they are with dipping sauce...I like Blue Cheese dressing! Bake them the cut them up and use in tossed salads. Baste with your favorite BBQ sauce and bake that way. Use them in sandwiches topped with cheese, slaw or pickles. You can also make a chicken salad with these for a different taste. Chop them up very fine and add mayonnaise, pickles, salt and pepper. For a twist on Chicken Cordon Bleu take a slice of ham, lay a cooked tender on it along with a small slice of cheese and roll up. Lay seam side down on baking pan and heat just till cheese starts to melt slightly. You can secure with a water soaked toothpick or skewer if you wish... ( picks won't burn this way). These make a nice snack for parties or anytime.
