Food Safety Modernization Act H.R. 875 Will it Make Organic Food Illegal?
Do We Even Need H.R. 875 the Food Safety Modernization Act?
Those of us that do like to eat organic whenever possible may think that our "trusted, loving, benevolent overlords" in Washington, DC wouldn't-couldn't consider such a move that would not only hurt our precious farmers with onerous and burdensome standards...but that will even make organic farmers have to adhere to non-natural treatment of their crops.
The Food Safety Modernization Act, HR 875, will require farmers to allow, at anytime, intrusive inspections of their crop, livestock, and fertilizer, to inspections at anytime, and to face fines up to one million dollars, per incident, per day.
The Food Safety Modernization Act, H.R. 875, has thirty nine co-sponsors in Washington, DC because it has a nice sounding name, because our congresspersons and senators, don't even bother reading the particular details of any bill, and because without passing more value-destructive, burdensome, and worthless legislation, they may very well be seen as being as worthless as they are to our society.
The standards of The Food Safety Modernization Act, HR 875, are such that only the largest corporate farms will be able to afford to keep the systems in place that will be necessary. I'm of the mind that while laying out the criteria of this bill, the sponsor of this gawd-awful bill (Rep. Rosa DeLauro D-CT), was probably only listening to their most generous lobbyists.
The purpose of The Food Safety Modernization Act, HR 875, is not with the sole intention of food safety. This bill is about nothing more than controlling independent businesses, and increasing revenue, as are most pieces of worthless legislation. At the very least, this bill is pointless. Communities have their own food safety standards in place already. Each county has their own health department in place. We don't need another bogus federal law. We especially don't need one that not only hurts the independent American farmer, but also affects whether or not I can choose to buy truly organic food.
This bill is nothing more than another example of how our pathetic politicians wish only to pass legislation that only serves two purposes: a) to increase the governments power over independent business people of all sorts; and 2) to increase revenue to the government. And as usual they're using a name on the bill that makes it sound as if it's a good thing. The most common response I hear from folks I talk to this about is (insert mealy-mouthed mumbler voice here) "Well...don't you like the idea of safe food?"
To these folks I say that firstly that's not entirely what this bill is about and if you'd just read the bill for yourself you'd see that. (I guess questioning authority is just too much trouble for some) Secondly I'd tell these folks that it's just plain redundant.
Our farmers, and we ourselves, are going to get hurt with The Food Safety Modernization Act, HR 875, and it sickens me.

Post a CommentI love you Cristi. Don't care who you are or what you look like either!
I couldn't say it better. We need to be more active in letting our Congressman and Senators know our thoughts. They can be fired just like the rest of us. More taxation and regulation is just another form of slavery!
great job dan if i only the mainstream media would do something about evil bills like this. i just wrote something real quick on this. man i just dont know what to do though because i dont trust the people in congress, either!!!
This is disturbing. After my husband and I finish our education we're planning to get out of the US again. I'd rather deal with tangible, straightforward evil and attacks than this type of thing.
My response to articles like this: "Don't just sit there! Write your Congressman!" (Which is, by the way, what I'm doing as we speak.)
Very annoying. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Don.
isn't it unfortunate that our government feels it's OK to take away our freedoms in the name of "safety" ? well, I'll just keep growing my own until they decide that's illegal too.

Very interesting indeed. I didn't know this was in the works.
Funny...that looks just like the link I provided in my resources. :P Look. Anytime these fools in DC pass another law it just hurts business further. They can say all that they want about "it might not be this exact bill" or...well hell...anything they wanna say. When are we gonna realize they're always LYING? I can imagine the scenarios created by the text of this bill. YOU might think that we can't live without Big Daddy Gubberment guiding our every move...but we're Americans and we all know just how rotten and crooked they are. I encourage EVERYONE to read the bill. The link's in my resources and Geannie was also kind enough to provide it again. I'll be as snippy as I want to be.
