One cannot avoid food. But at the same time, food saving should be part of our life also as it could be of great help to our generation and also the future generations. Unless we go for food saving, the world is going to face far reaching consequences.
When talking about food saving, many think that what they waste at home is nothing but only a small portion and this small portion will not make any difference. But the reality is that every small portion adds up. Very simple steps can be taken at home to save food. Planning the meal is the first step. Just organise the meals so that more food is not prepared that is not needed for the family. Look at how many meals will be eaten a day and how many persons will dine.
While shopping, make it a habit to buy groceries that are only needed. Make a list of the groceries that has been emptied in the kitchen and also check the fridge before you go to the market. Only buy the items that are necessary and those that are missing in the kitchen. Some think that bulk buying saves a lot of money. Well, it is true, but eating preference can change from day to day and there is a possibility that one may throw away the foodstuff that has been bought. Buy only what is needed and do not go for bulk shopping. Always buy food items for one or two days, which means no food wastage.
It is better to eat at home rather than eating outside. It helps not only in saving food but also in keeping one fit. While at home, one knows how much he is going to eat and the remaining food item can be kept in the fridge. Even while dining outside, only buy food according to one's eating habits. Do not buy what others buy or you may waste your food.
These are only a few tips for saving food. Well, when the world is reeling under food shortage and the world is talking of food security, better we take a pledge not to waste any food.
