Food and Wine

Food and wine matching is cloaked in myth. Yet fortified with a few ground rules, wine and food matching doesn't have to be complicated to overestimate just how rewarding it can be.

As a culinary student, I sometimes imagine myself indulged in some another passion - being s sommelier who knows wines very well. I've heard a lot about wines from Napa Valley and champagne's history off from Champagne, France and which influenced my wanderings over a winery boutique. Least from my little knowledge, I'd like to recommend bottles to go with your dishes and special occasions.

Matching Wine with Food

Traditional wine pairing with food still holds the truth as simple as "reds with meat and whites with poultry and fish", but I do believe that nowadays is all about experimenting. It's best not to think of the color of the wine but of its body and texture and that the taste should complement each other than drown each other out.

Merlot goes well with meats.

Or try your grilled steak with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rhône Blends, Zinfandel, Meritage, Norton or Cynthiana, Syrah, and Brut Sparkling Wine. Sausages are best paired withRiesling, Brut or Rosé Sparkling Wine, Barbera, Gamay Beaujolais, Norton or Cynthiana, Syrah, and Zinfandel.

A white wine for poultry and seafood adds body and spiciness to hold up to the Euro Asian flavors of the dish. Say for shrimp, lobster, crab, scallops, red snapper, and striped bass you must have Chardonnay, Colombard, Pinot Grigio/Gris, Roussanne, Vidal Blanc, and Semillion.

Matching wine with poultry can make a chicken dinner a gourmet experience. For chicken salad try reisling, chenin Blanc, and Pinot Blanc. For ducks find Pinot Noir, Merlot, Rosé Sparkling Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel.

We often suggest wines for giving as presents. The giver should find the perfect item for the right occasion or the person. By choosing the appropriate wine gift, the person who receives such a gift is sure to appreciate the item for the thoughtful selection suits his or her wishes as well.
