Foods for Your Bones

Not having enough calcium in the diet is not the only reason for osteoporosis. Calcium is just one part of the overall big picture of bone weakness. Although you can most likely improve your health by using calcium products, you have to look at the other factors in your diet that cause the disease.

Osteoporosis is caused by the consumption of foods that are very acidic. These foods are what I call "white terror foods" and should be avoided. Refined foods such as sugar, flour, soft drinks, sweets, high-fructose corn syrup, candy, any other type of foods that contain artificial sweeteners and additives and preservatives. People tend to always overeat these foods, in return it makes the body extremely acidic. In order to fight this, the body compensates by taking magnesium and calcium from anywhere in the body and gets it out into the bloodstream to regain some kind of balance.

White sugar, and all white products weakens the bones. Every time you drink a soda, eat a slice of cake or eat a candy bar, you are eliminating some of the density in your bones. If you do not want your bones to deteriorate, do not consume any refined foods. Stay away from white breads, sugars, flours, candy and other sweets.

It is easy, living in the world that we do today, to indulge in certain foods to feel good, because we are tired from a hard day, and just do not want to do anything else. Just because a product sounds delicious, and perhaps may be delicious, doesn't mean you should go ahead and eat it. We must get out of the dream state we are in, and focus on more healthy eating.

Green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, celery, cabbage and others of the dark green variety is what you will need to keep your body in a healthy state. Sprouts are an excellent choice, too. You can also take organic vitamins, seaweed, kelp and other sea vegetables which are alkaline foods.

The best way to prevent bone loss is to exercise. From running, lifting weights, taking the stairs instead of the elevator and the best known exercise, walking can definitely help you. Exercising that makes you sweat, not mild movement, increases your bone density.

The best way to eat to prevent bone degeneration is to eat more foods with fiber, decrease the amount of salt, fat and sugar. Bones are in a continual process of building themselves up and breaking down. Having more breakdown in your system than build up will put your bone density at an all time low. The incorrect fats in your diet is a really bad thing. Consuming saturated fats makes your cholesterol very high.

To bring balance back to your body, and increase your bone density, eat less meat, cheese, milk and other dairy products. You can use olive oil to cook your food. It is a well known fact that people just don't eat enough fruits, vegetables and bran products. Some other foods that are good for you are beans, figs and strawberries. Foods with calcium are tofu, cottage cheese, yogurt, spinach, and basically, all dark green vegetables.
